FAQ

ARE ORGANIZATIONS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE PHL-CHINA ALLIANCE?

Prior to the PHL-China Connections launch on January 12, 2017, only organizations meeting two criteria have been invited to join as founding members: (1) not-for-profits (local governments, economic development organizations, associations, etc.) whose mandate includes international, specifically China; and (2) organizations which have previously partnered with China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia and are supporting (as co-organizers, sponsor or some related capacity) an event in the PHL-China Connections launch.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR AN ORGANIZATION TO JOIN THE PHL-CHINA ALLIANCE?

Prior to the PHL-China Connections launch, any organization which fits the above criteria and wishes to join as a Founding Member is invited to request consideration for membership via email on this site.  A committee comprising members of China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia and several other PHL-China Alliance members will decide on the application.  Following the PHL-China Connections launch, guidelines will be issued for application for membership by for-profit organizations and for other not-for-profits.

ARE ORGANIZATIONS APPLYING TO JOIN THE PHL-CHINA ALLIANCE EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE FINANCIALLY?

In the current pre-launch phase, there is no financial obligation on the part of organizations which have joined as founding PHL-China Alliance members.  This will remain the case throughout 2017.  Should this change in 2018 or subsequently, founding members will retain the right to be identified as "Founding Member (Not Active)" if they elect not to pay to renew membership.  In the current year, the primary expectation of Founding Members is to contribute  the time, expertise and effort they have volunteered to one or more events in the PHL-China Connections launch.

IS THE PHL-CHINA ALLIANCE A LEGALLY-CONSTITUTED ENTITY?

No, not at this stage of its development.  The PHL-China Alliance is a loose, purpose-driven association of organizations collaborating to raise the Greater Philadelphia region's profile as a sub-national leader on established platforms of U.S.-China bi-national cooperation. The PHL-China steering committee (being announced in 2017 Q1) will make the determination whether to organize as a legal entity in the future.  For the time being, China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia is the legal entity (501c3 non-profit established in 2011) which administers business matters on behalf of the PHL-China Alliance.

ARE INDIVIDUALS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE PHL-CHINA ALLIANCE?

Individuals will be welcome to join following the PHL-China Connections launch.  Membership guidelines will be issued in advance.

CAN INDIVIDUALS JOIN THE PHL-CHINA MAILING LIST AND/OR MAKE DONATIONS?

Yes.  Individuals can request that their names be added to the PHL-China Connections newsletter (produced quarterly) by submitting an email with their request via this website.  Individuals wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution specifically to support the PHL-China Alliance -- as distinct from any of its member organizations -- can do so via the secure online payment portal on this website.  The contribution will be administered by the China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia, an accredited 501c3 non-profit; however, funds through this website specifically designated for PHL-China Alliance purposes will be maintained in a separate account and accounted for separately (minus an administrative fee paid to CPGP not to exceed 10%).  Use of these funds will be decided by the PHL-China Alliance steering committee (being announced in 2017 Q1).
